Over two years, the author made regular visits to the remote village of Šumiac in Slovakia to learn the dying craft of bonnet making from one of its last practitioners, Il’ka, an elderly local woman who in the process became her mentor in more ways than one. Through the parallel stories of Il’ka and the narrator’s grandmother, The Bonnet also offers a subtly feminist reading of the position of women in rural Europe from the early twentieth century to the present day.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Gardners Books Limited","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":41136524525703,"sku":"9781803093529","price":19.99,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0357\/3199\/6807\/files\/9781803093529.jpg?v=1711646168","url":"https:\/\/thebookhousebroughtyferry.live\/products\/9781803093529","provider":"The Bookhouse Broughty Ferry","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
